Kappeln (dänisch Kappel) ist eine Stadt in der Landschaft Angeln im Kreis Schleswig-Flensburg in Schleswig-Holstein (Deutschland). Die Stadt liegt an der Schlei nicht nur in Ostseenähe, sondern verfügt seit der Eingemeindung der Ortschaft Olpenitz auch über eine Angrenzung an die Ostsee. Kappeln ist von je her Handelsplatz und Fischereiort. Bis Juni 2006 war es Garnisonsstadt aufgrund der Stationierung von Marineeinheiten im Stützpunkt Olpenitz. Kappeln verfügt neben einem kleinen Hafenbetrieb über mehrere Sportboothäfen und eine Reihe von Betrieben, die für die Versorgung und den Unterhalt der Sportboote dienen. Für das östliche Angeln und das nördliche Schwansen hat Kappeln Zentrumsfunktion.
